How to Make a Sand and Ice Lantern

A rustic sand and ice lantern with a gorgeous textured, glowing finish, a real showpiece. This easy recipe from The Soap Barn uses simple candle making supplies.

What you will need

• Candle wax
• Candle wick
• Gold powder colouring
• A big bucket and a smaller bucket
• Sand and ice
• White tapered candles

Method

1. Fill the big bucket with soft sand and press the smaller bucket into it to create your candle shape, then remove it.
2. Place a white tapered candle in the middle of the sand shape and pack ice cubes around it.
3. Melt your wax and pour it over the ice to fill the sand shape.
4. Once set, lift the candle out and stand it in the basin while the ice melts off. Trim the base, dust with gold powder and light.
