How to Make a Citronella Mosquito Spray
12 June 2026A handbag-friendly solid perfume made from a lip balm base, long-lasting because it is oil based and does not evaporate.
What you will need
- 500ml plain lip balm base
- 50ml perfume (your chosen scent)
- 10ml lustre sparkle
- Solid perfume acrylic jars (3ml or 15ml)
Method
- Melt the plain lip balm base in a pot on the stove over low heat (not in the microwave).
- Add the perfume and lustre sparkle.
- Mix well and decant into your jars.
- To use, rub onto your wrists and behind your ears, it lasts all day.

Tips & variations
Once you have made your solid perfume, here are a few ways to get a great result and make it your own.
- Add fragrance gradually and stir well so it blends evenly through the base.
- Store any extra in a sealed bottle away from heat.
- Label each batch with the date and fragrance so you remember your favourites.
Make it your own: blend two fragrances, or adjust the strength to suit the size of the room.
