Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter with its natural chocolatey aroma, a firm butter that brings hardness and richness to a make. Botanical name Theobroma cacao.

What to make. Body butters, lotion bars, lip balms, massage bars, and cold process or melt and pour soap.

Working with it. It is hard at room temperature, so grate or chop it before melting and melt it gently. Like shea it can go grainy if it cools too slowly, so once melted, cool it quickly before whipping. In balms and bars it is the ingredient that makes the difference between a firm bar and a soft one.

Good to know. The chocolate aroma carries through into the finished make, so plan your fragrance around it rather than against it.
