9 June 2026Making your own lip balm couldn’t be easier. Our lip balm is a melt-and-pour base, so it really is dummy-proof, just melt and pour. Perfect for dry winter lips, and a lovely small gift or product to sell.
What you will need
- Lip balm base (from The Soap Barn)
- Lip-safe flavour or fragrance
- Lip balm containers or tubes
Method
- Pop the lip balm base into a small heat-safe jug or pot.
- Gently melt it on the stove over low heat until liquid.
- Stir in a little lip-safe flavour or fragrance if you like.
- Pour into your lip balm containers and leave to set. That is it!

Tips & variations
Once you have made your lip balm, here are a few ways to get a great result and make it your own.
- Pour just below boiling so the balm stays smooth, and work quickly as it sets fast.
- Add a little extra butter for a softer balm, or more wax for a firmer one.
- Store in a cool, dry spot and use clean, dry hands or a spatula to keep it fresh.
Make it your own: change the fragrance or essential oil, or tweak the colour to suit the season.
