How to Make Mochaccino Gel Candles
9 June 2026Water candles have a unique, organic shape, each one different, and make glorious centrepieces. This easy recipe from The Soap Barn uses simple candle making supplies.
What you will need
- Candle wax
- A deep bucket of cold water
- White tapered candles

Method
- Gently melt your wax in a pot (never the microwave).
- Hold a tapered candle so the bottom is submerged about 4cm in the water.
- Pour some melted wax into the water around the candle and slowly twist while it sets, about 20 seconds.
- Lower the candle a little, add more wax and repeat to the top. Work slowly and gently for the best results.

Tips & variations
Once you have made your water candles, here are a few ways to get a great result and put your own spin on it.
- Match your wick to the container width: too small and it tunnels, too large and it smokes.
- Add fragrance at around 60C so the scent binds properly into the wax.
- Trim the wick to about 5mm before every burn to keep the flame steady and cut down on soot.
