How to Make a Spice Candle

A layered spice candle with orange slices, cinnamon and coffee beans looks and smells gorgeous in winter. This easy recipe from The Soap Barn uses simple candle making supplies.

Method

1. Cut your wick to size, melt the gel wax over low heat, dip the wick and fasten the sustainer, then position it in the middle of the vase.
2. Pour a thin layer of gel and leave to cool, then arrange some of your orange slices and natural props around the edge.
3. Continue pouring layers of gel and adding props until the vase is nearly full.
4. Melt the powder wax and pour over the top, leave to set and top up any shrink hole. Each layer gives a different fragrance.

Tips & variations

Once you have made your spice candle, here are a few ways to get a great result and put your own spin on it.

• Work on a protected surface, these designs can get a little messy while they set.
• Let everything set fully before moving it so the shape holds.
• Warm your container slightly before pouring to help the wax stick and avoid wet spots on the glass.
