Soy Wax 1kg

(1 customer review)

Soy wax, the natural plant-based choice for container candles. It burns slowly, gives a soft creamy finish and washes out of a jar with hot soapy water, which is why so many makers choose it for candles sold in glass.

What to make. Container candles in glass and tins, wax melts, and candles you plan to sell where a natural wax is part of the appeal.

Working with it. Melt gently, add fragrance once it has cooled a little off the melt, stir for a couple of minutes so it binds properly, then pour on the cool side and let it set slowly at room temperature. Rushing the cool is what causes a bumpy or cratered top.

Good to know. Soy is a soft wax, so it suits containers rather than free-standing pillars. A slightly rustic, matte surface is normal and not a fault.

Supplied in 1kg. Try it in our soy candle and coffee candle methods.

Frequently asked questions

How does soy wax compare with paraffin?

Soy is a natural wax that burns slightly slower and cooler, with a soft, creamy finish, and suits containers. Paraffin has a stronger scent throw, takes colour brightly and suits moulded candles.

How much fragrance should I add to soy wax?

Up to 20ml per 250g of wax, which is 8%.

How long should a soy candle cure before burning?

10 to 14 days. Paraffin wax candles need about 7 days.

Why does my soy candle have a white, frosted surface?

This is called frosting. It is natural soy wax crystallising as it cools and does not affect how the candle burns. Pouring slightly cooler and warming the jar first helps reduce it.
