How to Make an Ice Lantern Candle

A festive Christmas candle fills your home with a warm, seasonal scent, and makes a gorgeous gift. This easy recipe from The Soap Barn uses simple candle making supplies.
What you will need
- 1kg candle wax
- Wick
- Cranberry fragrance
- Red candle colouring
- 1 litre bucket as a mould
- Decorative paper and ribbon

Method
- Melt your wax gently, then add the cranberry fragrance and red colouring.
- Position the wick in the bucket and pour in the melted wax. Leave to set.
- Top up the shrink hole in the middle with leftover melted wax and let it cool completely.
- Remove from the bucket and wrap with decorative paper and ribbon.

Tips & variations
Once you have made your christmas candle, here are a few ways to get a great result and put your own spin on it.
- Match your wick to the container width: too small and it tunnels, too large and it smokes.
- Add fragrance at around 60C so the scent binds properly into the wax.
- Trim the wick to about 5mm before every burn to keep the flame steady and cut down on soot.
