How to Make Melt and Pour Soap
9 June 2026A thick, creamy, luxurious body butter that is deeply moisturising, a gorgeous gift. This easy recipe from The Soap Barn uses simple ingredients from our body and bath range.
What you will need
- 500ml lotion base
- 100ml shea butter
- 500ml urea
- Hot water (from the tap)
- Fragrance
- Lustre sparkle
- Lotion jars

Method
- Melt the lotion base in the microwave for three minutes, then pour into a pot over low heat.
- Dissolve 500ml urea in 500ml hot tap water and add it to the base, then add another 1.5 litres of hot tap water (hot but not boiling).
- Stir well and remove from the heat. Melt the shea butter and add it with your fragrance and a little lustre sparkle.
- Beat with an electric beater as it cools until thick, rich and creamy, then fill your jars.

Tips & variations
Once you have made your cleopatra body butter, here are a few ways to get a great result and make it your own.
- Whip it once cooled but still soft for that light, fluffy texture; too warm and it stays runny.
- Keep it away from heat, body butter can melt and lose its whip on a hot day.
- Measure by weight for results you can repeat batch after batch.
